I ONLY WANTED FLOWERS📌🌹🌺…
I was thinking about my journey to loving myself and treating myself like the gem God had created me to be. I never saw myself as beautiful, cause I hardly had eyebrows, I was the tallest girl in my class and a bit muscular for a girl. I decided to derive or birth beauty from artificial stuff like hair, makeup… name it.
10 hours of sitting in one position to get butt-length braids done, just so I can “whip my hair back and forth” like Willow Smith. AH!!! ema binu!(forgive me!) I cannot can anymore. I grew really weary of it that in Year 5, I cut my hair.
Not gonna lie, I cried till my eyes were bloodshot like red bell pepper. Who sent me message bayi? I was mocked and mistakenly called a boy “on purpose”. Arghh! I felt really angry that I had made the decision to cut my beautiful thick 4C natural black hair!
But you know what? I got tired of the endless mockery that I decided to love the hair… I mean the head 🤡 (since I scraped my hair off) that God had blessed me with. I grew into loving myself. It took time — it was an excruciatingly painful journey, but it was worth it.
I would say, “I’m beautiful”, “I’m a fine girl!”, “Like ki lo de, God dey create!” Endless hypes to keep my self-esteem up and bubbly. I grew to love the baby girl God made me to be. No one could downplay that, and that was and is still all that matters.
Now, my hair is all grown, my smile genuine and bright. I can sit(not for 10 hours obviously, that’s a stretch😂🤡) to make my hair, but that doesn’t define my beauty.
Points to Note:
Grow into loving yourself. Nobody can downplay you because think about it… everyone has their flaws. So, who or what gives them the effrontery, the damn right to mock your own flaws?
Get a mirror, but if you don’t have one, flip open your Snapchat front camera( without filters obviously😂), or try using the window of your dad’s car as a mirror,🤣 and repeat these words:
1.I am beautiful/handsome.
2. I am unique (even if you’re a twin, you still have something unique about you)
3. Wahala for who no fine like me!!🥱😌
4. Dayumm!! I’m hot like a heater😂( ok, I’m kidding now).
