I got nominated and chosen via several auditions, at the beginning of the month, to play the role of the homecoming queen in the Netflix series, “The Quintessential African Home”. I pretended to be surprised but truly, it was expected. I do hope I don’t seem too arrogant. The preparatory stage has been really hectic but I thank God for grace.

Disclaimer: This piece is almost 100% true asides the parts that are 100% made up.🥱🥱

Just two days ago, I was interviewed by Amebo News Nigeria. I love interviews by the way, it gives me a chance to be expressive. One striking question I remember being asked was, “How do you juggle playing a major role, “the homecoming queen” in the series, The Quintessential African Home and your student life? I hear you are currently in your final phase of college.” This question made me chuckle a bit.😂

Let’s take it back to where it all began. I happen to be born as a woman in a typical African home and with this circumstance, I have been vested with some specific responsibilities. I have been a student since the day I could say, “mama and papa”. I remember my mum telling me tales of how I spoke a lot, right from the moment my first tooth sprung out from hiding.😃 What point am I trying to drive home? Playing the role of homecoming queen has been innate.

I come home from school and I resume work doing house chores( I call it “house-girl/ house-wife duties”)💆‍♀️💆‍♀️ . Trust me, my grades were never to be caught slipping. Therefore, no matter the load of housework I had on my plate, I still had to study, meet assignment deadlines, and whatnot. I was trained from the on set, till I became the queen that came home from school after a long semester of being a student. Yet, I still had my home under control, “the homecoming queen”.🤩🤣

I might have let the cat out of the bag earlier than I should but playing the role of homecoming queen in the series is basically living my life on screen. ☺ Frankly, it has never been easy and it doesn’t get easy. I just have to bask at the moment and pray for strength to juggle both roles because this Christmas happens to be the season when the house-girl duties I’m tasked with, in my house are on the rise. You can call me the homecoming queen of a typical African home.😪

If you have read till this point,

  • The Netflix Series was totally made up.😂🤲 ( I just borrowed the name for this article). When someone from Netflix stumbles on this, please don’t detain me. *whispers* “I don’t mind playing a role in one of your series though. ‘Far From Home’ has already been premiered but I guess, the next one?”😉🌹
Some of my readers right now!!😂😂
  • The Amebo News Nigeria was also made up.😂🤲
  • The aspect of juggling my life as a student with the numerous house chores is 100% not made up.😭😭 It’s all part of the training I suppose.🤔
  • As you might have noticed, my idea of a homecoming queen is different from the norm.

An excerpt from SHESPEAKSHERMIND247 Dictionary:

Homecoming Queen: A lady who juggles being in charge of her home with other responsibilities like work, school and other aspects of her life.

Example: She isn’t called the homecoming queen for nothing. Look how she comes home from work after a long day, yet manages her home seamlessly.

If you happen to be faced with a similar dilemma, trust me sis, you’re not alone. Let’s just take this in good faith. It’s temporary, yet an important part of our training.🥰🥰

I hope my male readers don’t feel left out. I have something special being planned for you as well.😂😂📌 Stay tuned!
